Day 35

7 March 2013

Today we were going to look at a few attractions around this area and do the touristy stuff.

Our day started at Peninsula Hot Springs which I had found on a website and thought looked like something interesting to do! After speaking with a lovely girl there we decided to buy an attractions pass for the mornington peninsula which is $55 for entry to 4 attractions and some other discounts; however one of the attractions is of course the hot springs but we will come back to that.

Attraction pass is hand we headed to our first "attraction" - Cape Schanck Lighthouse. We arrived just in time to miss the next tour of the lighthouse! We did notice there were some walks around the lighthouse area and we had bought snacks so decided to head on these. The walks took us to some great lookouts over the water.

And also led us to some rock pools, which we pretty much just accidentally stumbled across but was a good find! This was called Pebble Beach and there is a boardwalk all the way to the rocky beach, the walk then got a bit harder with stepping on and over uneven rocks but the pools at the end were worth it.

We then headed back to the lighthouse hoping we would be right on time for another tour, turns out we still had to wait half an hour but it was lunch time so we pulled up to a picnic table and waited for the tour.

Now I have never been into a lighthouse before so my opinion may be biased but I really enjoyed the tour. Walked up some spiral stairs that just got narrower and the head space become smaller and smaller. Then opened into a tight beautiful wooden varnished room where all the mechanics of the lighthouse were and we walked around the lighthouse balcony to get some great views.

There is also a museum and some lighthouse keepers accommodation houses that you can check out after the tour too.

After here we headed to find a swim, it was sweltering hot on our tour and we both needed to jump into some water!

Headed to Sorrento where there are more rock pools on Backs Beach. There is a nice swimming beach here, little waves but pretty calm and rocks pools on low tide. We had a bit of a dip in the rock pools and cooled off, there was some small fish and things to see in the pools and great weather!

We then headed back to camp for an early dinner before our twilight hot springs! We went between 7-10pm and there are heaps of different bathes to choose from varying in degrees of heat, the hottest being 43 degrees! It was so relaxing and calming in the pools, our favourite was the one that also turned into a spa bath for 15 mins each hour! We also went in the Hamana which is a Turkish steam room, bloody hot and I was just pouring cold water on my head the whole time but when you came out you felt like you want to go back in. There was plunge pools full of freezing cold water, massage chairs, sauna, foot bathes, reflexology rocks, bathe that looked out over a great view and the water contains minerals that are good for you too! It was great! Only thing was our camera went flat after two photos so we couldn't take many photos!

After this we were very relaxed and headed back to camp for bed time.
