As I have mentioned previously we pretty much had nothing that would be useable on our trip as the old tent and camping equipment just wouldn't cut it anymore!
This is the equipment we have bought so far:
1993 Jayco Swift Campervan - $6,500
We have made the following modifications to our Campervan since buying it:
- Ripped all the old school contact (cork board look) off the walls of the camper and replaced with a more modern black white grey thin striped contact. Approx cost of replacing contact - $60, watching it peel off the walls 2 weeks later - priceless.
- Re-covered the cushions for the bench seats in the camper. Now I make this sound like it was an easy task but my god, nothing has tested my patients like the old sewing machine did when trying to make these cushions! I enlisted the help of long time sewer (mum) and youtube sensation "bubba" who showed us how to make a box cushion and somehow we fluffed our way through it. It actually turns out that Joel was better at making the cushions than me which is slightly embarrassing! But the main thing is we completed them. So they went from a lovely worn, stained yellow velvet type material to a nice simple grey for the bottom cushion and grey leaf pattern material for the back cushion (pictured below) They turned out great and made a huge difference. Approx cost of replacing cushion covers and foam - $420
- New curtains to replace the flower numbers that came with the van. Just picked simple burgundy material. Yes I actually made all of these myself! No help from mumma, bubba or Joel!
- Joel rebuilt the whole chassis drawbar and suspension to make it an off road camper and to make it a lot stronger than it was. Approx cost - $1300.
- Brake controller - $149
- Replace floor with timber look Lino - $150
- Replace water tank and water pump for sink. Put a second water tank in with a pump which will be for the shower. Have also attached a garden hose to outside of van for easy access to water.
- Made compartments in the kitchen cupboards
- Replaced gas bottle and gas regulator
- New hitch
- Road worthy
- Jerry cans
- Toolbox for front of camper
- Solar panel and deep cycle battery
- Cutlery
- Plates
- Butane gas heater
- Leveling blocks
- Generator
- Hot water system
- Storage boxes for kitchen
- Clothesline
- Satellite tv set up
- Internet set up
- New mattress for the beds in the camper
- New bench tops for kitchen
