Day 191

6 August 2013

Had a but of time to burn this morning before mates arrived to head to Fraser. Started morning with nice brekky at Jilarty's cafe, so good highly recommended! Did a spot of shopping and bought a bikini and Joel a shirt.

Next we needed to organise our permits etc, headed to the parks and wildlife centre which is on the right as you come in to rainbow, (however pretty much every store in rainbow sells them or online) but this place knows a bit more about road closures, conditions etc. Vehicle permit is $42.15 for one month and $11 a night (2 ppl) camping. We chose the beach camping option which means you can camp at any of the beach camps up along the east and west side of the island. Barge ticket purchased from the 4wd centre across the road - $110. (Goes up all the time, we were saying we can remember when it was $60! Such is life!)

Fellow travelers arrive and we are heading over on the barge to Hook Point! Great weather, great company, first two dingoes sighted... was going to be a great trip! Off the barge we had a fairly big 3-4 hour drive to get to where we wanted to camp, close to the northern tip on the eastern side. Found a quiet spot with heaps of space and set up our tents. We had a tent race to see who could get theirs up first... Should not have invited the friend who just brought the new 30 second oz trail tent! Haha but hey I reckon 2 minutes and we were done.

Afternoon was spent with a few drinks and relaxing by the campfire (that you are not supposed to have).
