Day 192

7 August 2013

Today we were off to visit the Western beaches... We have all been to Fraser three or four times so the next couple of days will not be a comprehensive list of what to do on Fraser!

An inland track of about 20km takes you from the east beaches to the west. It was a relatively easy sandy track. Once on the western side it is definitely a lot quieter, the sand is whiter and if you look out to the horizon the water is a beautiful shade of blue. We were hoping that the fishing and crabbing would be great on the side but instead we were faced with neither. While I did get puffer fish eating my soft plastics, that was about all the action we saw! Did a spot of sun baking and eating and then decided to head to champagne pools to have a look.

Champagne Pools are a popular swimming hole with the ocean crashing over the rocks into shallow sandy pools. There is a wooden boardwalk leading from the car park and give you a great view point for the pools and the ocean. Stairs then lead down to the pools and as we came on low tide there was not a lot of water around, but a lot of little rock pools with fish etc to look at. I have only ever been here on high tide so it was a totally different experience at low tide and definitely worth a look when on Fraser.

We spent some time searching for pippies (which we actually managed to find!) and the boys catching some fish. Few dart, bream and tailor.

Rest of the afternoon was spent chatting, drinking and regular camping activities.

Ps sorry for the no photos, I know it makes for boring reading but one of our cameras died and I can't get the photos off it!
