9 April 2013
Today we decided to go for a bit of an explore around the area. About 20km from here is a little town called Denmark so we headed back here as we had forgot a few things on the grocery list and there was a visitor information centre here also.
First for breakfast, Joel wanted a pie so we found the only bakery in town and headed in there. This bakery was great, it had so much stuff to choose from and it was cheap. They had cakes, sweets, sandwiches, wraps, pies, pasties, hotbox crap and Chinese food! Haha Big focaccia breads for $2, muffins $2, was bakery heaven.
After brekky headed to the visitor information centre to see what we could do around this town. It's a nice centre with loads of info and you can book tours from here also and hire bikes. There was also a guy doing wood turning which was interesting to watch. Map in hand we were off to explore....first stop chocolate lounge....mmmm. Swiss chocolate with a hunky guy selling it, we tried a few tastings but decided we didn't need to buy any or we would just eat it. They had beautiful gardens here also which I really liked and took a photo to see if I can somehow incorporate it at home! You can't see in this photo but all up the wooden things they were growing climbing plants as well.
As we were driving out I told Joel that the guy in the chocolate shop would sell so much chocolate to women! He was like why? I said cuz he was terribly good looking and the way he talked about chocolate in his deep voice would have women pulling out their credit cards all over the shop! Haha I think you know what I mean fellow women readers! Haha
Next onto the cheese factory... Good news it doesn't open on Tuesday or Wednesdays!
Next to some sightseeing at the William Bay National Park. First looked at green pools, which is meant to be a rock pool type place with calm waters, I think the tide was a little high and the water was pretty rough but I can imagine it on a calm day would be extra amazing.
Then went down a dirt road to look at waterfall beach, now apparently there is a waterfall here at the end of the beach, I know right you are saying wow that would be cool, me too....except once we got to the beach there was no sign to tell us where it was or where to go! Annoying! So we gave up on that cuz we could have walked 10km in the wrong direction and still not seen a waterfall! Next to mad fish bay which is named as fish apparently jump out of the water on high tide. Well we got there when there wasn't much sand left so must have been pretty close to high tide but I did not see any fish, however still a nice place to stop and have a look.
Lastly to Elephant Rock/Cove...a little walk gets you to some stairs that take you down to the beach. As we were coming down the stairs I thought that looks cool, huge big boulder rocks in front of us.
Keep going and you are presented with huge boulders that have a little crack between them, that is just big enough to walk through and also big enough for the waves to come crashing through too! Pick your moment here when you decide to enter the crack or you may end up a very wet person!
On the other side of these boulders is a nice little cove with more huge rocks hence the name elephant rock, hard to explain but was just a really interesting place. Photo might help...
Rocks done, now off to toffee world! Stopped in here just to see what it was like, Denmark is really a beautiful town, it's mainly green luscious farms and wineries everywhere. This toffee house was no exception with ducks running around and little mini pigs to look at and a typical country practical joke...
Inside is a little cafe with ice creams, toffees and all sort of sauces, marinades and spice powders. All samples as well. We did get a few toffee samples to bring home with us! Nice place for a stop in though!
We were meant to go fishing today but after our exploring we ran out of time and had to get the fire going and tea cooked.
I am now wondering why I bought mango toffee? It sounded good at the time, now eating it I am wondering why you would ever mix the two things!
I can't believe it's April already!
