Left Sandy Cape Campground this morning, you can stay here a maximum of 4 nights, while we had only stayed two we had sort of looked at everything in the area. So drove north towards Geraldton hoping we may be able to find a nice place to stay on the way.
We didn't find anything that took our fancy on the way and made it to Geraldton, we had no hope of getting a spot in there as it is school holidays here so decided to keep heading north.
Came across a place in the camp 6 book which was called Oakabella Homestead, decided we might check this out. Further research told us that this homestead is actually the most haunted house in WA and one of the most haunted in Australia. We weren't sure if we wanted to stay but after 4 hours of driving we saw a sign that said Oakabella Homestead home made scones! So that was all we needed to check it out!
Quirky lady that runs it, she was lovely and very accommodating. She gave us a few stories to read on the homestead and after reading these stories I was happy to just eat my scones and get the hell out of there! She had written to that's life to tell her story about how she came to own the homestead and apparently a man who toured the homestead called her the next day and said he kept having a dream that his legs were burning and the owner says to this guy....oh that's Arthur he died at the homestead and must of followed you home, you will have to get a spirit guide to come and remove him from your house!
Anyway the scones were to die for and I would def come just for that! You can do a tour of the homestead for $10 pp but we just didn't errr have time.....ok fine the articles were enough for me and I didn't want to tour the homestead cuz it was scary! Haha The camping is pretty much just an empty paddock with no facilities and at $9 pp per night it's really not worth it so kept going!
As we jumped in the car to head away from the homestead, Joel says "quick get in the car, we don't want any bloody ghosts following us home!" Hahaha and we were off.
Ended up heading towards Kalbarri and found a station about 50km away to pull up for the night. $20 a night is a rip off but the view is pretty spectacular as you camp on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Nice sunset over the water.
