Day 72

13 April 2013

Today we were off to check out some of the touristy things that the staff had marked on a map for us.

Stopped in Margaret River town and went to a glass blowing shop and watched a demonstration of some quirky guy doing it. Loved watching it, would love to try it! Would have bought everything in this shop but everything was $500+

Next to a cute little town called Cowaramup which is obviously a dairy area as there was cow statues everywhere, in front of shops, in parks, all through main street. I thought it was really cool, Joel wasn't so impressed.

Stop in at the cheese factory for some tastings, I was on the lookout for the Parmesan cheese that was on that pizza last night but unfortunately it wasn't here.

The scenery on this drive was great as everywhere are vineyards which I think are just so nice to look at. Stopped in at the first brewery that was established in this area and bought a sampler pack of all their beers. We had to make it to Bussleton in 30 mins so we didn't have much time!

Raced to Bussleton jetty where we had booked a tour of the jetty and underwater observatory. This jetty is the longest in the Southern Hemisphere at 2km and there is a train that takes you to the very end where there is a underwater observatory. Hopped on train and headed out to end of jetty.

Choo choo we make it to the end and enter the observatory. There is a spiral staircase taking you down below the jetty's surface and at each level is a window where they stop and provide info. This window showed half way down and barnacles and organisms that had attached themselves to the pile ons.

Next was a bit deeper where one trevally has been hanging out and swimming up and down the window wondering what everyone's doing in the window! She said its very strange as they are warm water fish and its cold water here but everyday no fail he's there swimming up and down. Joel with his new mate Trev...

At the very bottom you can see all sorts of fish, divers, starfish etc it was definitely worth a look, we really enjoyed it.

We decided to walk back to the end of the jetty as the train was a bit slow! Bit of lunch and we were buggered and headed back to Margaret River for a good nights rest!

Carly & Joel
